General Questions

Comprehensive answers to all your questions about NHI courses, licenses, and technical details.

General Information & Eligibility

Are special accommodations provided for students with disabilities?

At NHI, we strive to ensure that all of its programs and services are accessible to people with disabilities, in accordance with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Please contact our student service department at 1.888.644.5562 if your disability requires that special arrangements be made in order for you to take our courses.

Are your courses approved for all types of nursing licenses?

Yes. Our courses are applicable for RNs, LPN/LVNs, and advanced practice nurses.

Can I obtain a license taking your courses?

No. Our courses are for health professionals who currently have a license and need continuing education courses in order to renew their license, or who are seeking a new license in another state. However, some courses may meet your state's initial license requirements for a specific number of hours on a single topic.

Can I take your courses if I'm not a nurse?

Yes. Our courses are available to anyone, including students, caregivers, healthcare professionals of any designation, and the general public who are interested in the topics we offer.

I don't have my license yet. Can I take your courses?

Yes. All of our Certificates of Completion include accreditation and approval statements specific to the course you take, and the course may meet initial licensure requirements. Check with your licensing agency to confirm acceptability if you are taking the course for this purpose.

How do I become an author or instructor with NHI?

We're always on the lookout for new talent and ideas. Becoming a National Healthcare Institute faculty and/or author gives you a platform to share your expertise with the healthcare community while developing a name for yourself as an expert in your field. For instructions on how to join our team you can visit our Employment page.

How does NHI create courses and programs?

National Healthcare Institute follows specific steps with every course and program we create and publish. These steps ensure that our process is thoughtful, evidence-based, and quality driven. This includes Needs Assessment, extensive research by assigned writers, peer review for content accuracy, instructional design implementation, and final review by a Nurse Planner.

Licensing, Reporting & Certificates

Can I be disciplined for not having all required CE hours?

If an audit (electronic) indicates you failed to meet your CE requirements, you will be referred for possible action against your license. This process includes an opportunity for you to submit proof of your compliance. Only if you cannot prove compliance will you be subject to further action. Discipline will be conducted according to the licensure rules which govern your profession.

Do you report to CE Broker?

Yes. For your convenience, we report all approved nursing continuing education course completions of Florida and District of Columbia license holders to the CE Broker system. To ensure accurate reporting, you must include your license prefix (e.g., RN123456).

Why can't I find my courses listed on CE Broker?

If you completed an online course with the passing score for your license, NHI will report to CE Broker monthly (or faster as required). After we report to CE Broker, it takes them some time to post your hours on the web.

Can NHI forward my certificate to my state licensing board?

Unless requested by your board, NHI does not submit certificates directly to the board. It is your responsibility to provide a copy of your certificate to the board, when necessary.

How and when will I receive my certificate of completion?

After successfully completing the course's post-test and evaluation survey, a link to your certificate of completion will appear on the course home page. By clicking on this link, your certificate will be generated as an Adobe Acrobat PDF file for you to print and/or save.

How can I get another copy of my certificate?

You can print your certificate as many times as you need for a one-year period at no charge. After a year has elapsed since the date your certificate was issued, a $5.00 fee will be assessed for each certificate copy you request.

I am licensed in more than one state. Can I receive multiple certificates?

We would be happy to send you multiple certificates for the completed courses, free of charge, provided that you supply us with all license numbers needed at the time you enroll. There will be an extra charge of $5.00 for any additional certificates provided for licenses supplied after your exam is graded.

How many contact hours does my state require to renew my license?

Contact hour requirements vary from state to state. Continuing Education requirements change from time to time. We recommend that you contact your state licensing board for the most current information or visit our "Continuing Education Requirements" page.

Why do you need my license number? I don't like to give it out.

Most states require that your professional license number appear on your certificate of completion. We respect your privacy and have many security measures in place to protect your personal information.

Course Mechanics

Can I take the course immediately after signing up?

Yes. You create a username and password as part of the registration process, so you can use that login immediately after payment to start your course.

What can I expect when I register for a course?

Once your order has been processed, our system will immediately generate an on-screen access instructions page along with your purchase receipt. You will also receive an e-mail with this information. Upon accessing our Learning Management System, you will have instant access to your course and post-test.

Do I have to complete the course on the same day I started it?

No. You can pause a course as many times as you need to. Simply logout when you decided to stop. Next time you return, the system will ask you if you want to continue from the page you last reviewed.

How long do I have to complete the course?

Unless otherwise indicated with a specific course expiration date, courses must be completed within 1 year from the date of registration.

What if I go past the course completion date?

If the date has passed, you may be able to purchase a 6-month extension for a nominal charge of 10% of the course original price. All course extensions must be approved by the Registrar's Office. Contact us at support@NHInstitute.com. Note: Courses with board-imposed expiration dates cannot be extended.

How many times can I view each lecture in the course?

You can enter and exit each course module as often as you would like within one year from the time you first access the course. Each time you log back in, the module will continue where you left off or you can reset it.

If I don't pass the final exam, can I take the test again?

Yes. You can take the final exam as many times as you need to pass. There is no charge for taking the final exam multiple times. You can also take the exam again to try and get a higher score if you so desire.

How do I report factual errors in a lesson or exam?

We appreciate knowing what's not working. Send us an e-mail through the "Author E-mail" button located on the first page of every course.

Can I receive a hard copy of a course by mail?

No. All courses offered at NHI's website are internet-based only.

Can I have multiple people view the course?
