This 6 hours online continuing education course provides an in-depth education for healthcare providers on the actions that may be taken when confronted by an active shooter, as well as indicators of workplace violence and how to manage the consequences of an incident.

Completion Requirements

In order to receive full contact-hour credit for this CE activity, participants must:

  1. Be registered for this activity,
  2. Review the course material,
  3. Complete and submit the course evaluation survey.
  4. Other requirements for some of the courses may also include participation discussion boards, practice exercises, practice questions, etc.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize ethical considerations during a healthcare active shooter event
  2. Discuss how to prevent an active shooter situation
  3. Prepare for an active shooter situation
  4. Understand threat assessment teams
  5. Participate in active shooter response plans
  6. Respond to an active shooter situation
  7. Understand law enforcement active shooter tactics, integrated planning and crime scene management
  8. Discuss the active shooter initial response
  9. Participate in active shooter integrated planning
  10. Mention special areas of consideration for response
  11. Understand crime scene considerations
  12. Coordinate medical response and behavioral health support
  13. Discuss public safety responses
  14. Understand how to adapt the TECC recommendation for use inside the hospital
  15. Discuss how to approach media
  16. Reduce the crime scene footprint
  17. Mention considerations after an active shooter incident
  18. Discuss behavioral health considerations before, during and after an active shooter incident
  19. Understand victim/family member services
