This interactive course is designed to provide students with a better understanding the physiology of fluid and electrolyte imbalances. Composition of body fluids, fluid compartments and factors that affect movement of water and solutes are reviewed. The regulation of vascular volume and extracellular fluid osmolality will also be presented. Laboratory data important on the assessment of patients with fluid and electrolyte imbalance (sodium, potassium, calcium phosphorus and magnesium) will also be explored. Common clinical conditions associated with fluid and electrolyte disorders are also covered as part of this course.
