Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a preventable and treatable disease state characterized by chronic airflow limitation that is not fully reversible. The airflow limitation is usually progressive and associated with an abnormal inflammatory response of the lungs to noxious particles or gases, primarily caused by cigarette smoking. This course discusses the etiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, nursing management and collaborative care of the patient with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This course also discusses the pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, collaborative care, and nursing management of the patient with cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis.
