This course introduces students to the characteristics and etiology of atherogenic dyslipidemia as well as the underlying pathophysiology of the disease. Important points about the evaluation of laboratory values of patients with atherogenic dyslipidemia and important teaching points in patient education are covered. Both pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic treatments were addressed. Pharmacologic therapies including statins, nicotinic acid, resins, fibrates, and omega-3 fatty acids are discussed.
