Overview

Unfortunately domestic violence continues to be a problem in America today.· So many people are impacted by domestic violence, that it is highly like as a health care professional you will encounter a victim of domestic violence.· Because of this, this course will allow you to learn to identify the behaviors and signs of domestic violence and as a health care professional you will have a protocol in place in how to handle it.

Target Audience

This course is designed for Florida nurses required to obtain a two-hour Prevention of Domestic Violence course as a condition for licensure renewal. This course is also designed for Florida nurses looking to enhance their knowledge on identifying and preventing domestic violence.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe the impact of violence on health care and how one can define “domestic violence”
  2. Cite ways to prevent domestic violence and what local, state and national laws have to say about this painful subject
  3. Know how to identify individuals as potential perpetrators of domestic violence as well as their potential victims and how to conduct this assessment with an eye on cultural sensitivity
  4. Identify community resources available for both victims and perpetrators of domestic violence

Completion Requirements

In order to receive full contact-hour credit for this CNE activity, participants must:

  • Be registered for this activity,
  • Review the course material,
  • Complete the course post-test and obtain a grade of 70% or higher,
  • Complete and submit the course evaluation survey.
  • Other requirements for some of the courses may also include participation discussion boards, practice exercises, practice questions, etc.
