Are NHI courses accepted by my state Board of Nursing?
All states requiring nursing CE accept courses from providers approved by and in good standing with other state’s board of nursing; therefore, our courses are recognized and accepted nationwide!
Specific exceptions to this rule are:
- State of California Board of Registered Nursing which requires that courses taken within the state must be accredited by the California Board of Nursing.
- State of Florida Board of Nursing which requires that certain courses be provided by organizations that are accredited by the Florida Board of Nursing.
- State of Kentucky Board of Nursing which accepts CE courses from CE providers approved by other state board of nursing for re-licensure purposes, but not for a the required HIV/AIDS and Domestic Violence courses which are only accepted if the CE provider is accredited by the Kentucky Board of Nursing.
What is CE course approval and accreditation?
CE course approval and accreditation are voluntary, independent review of educational programs to determine that the material provided is of uniform and sound quality. Being awarded approval or accreditation ensures that an institution has been evaluated and that it met set standards of quality determined by the accrediting organization granting the approval or accreditation.
What is the purpose of CE course approval and accreditation?
It encourages improvement through continuous self-study and review. It fosters excellence in continuing education through the development of principles and guidelines for assessing educational effectiveness.
Why is state Board of Nursing approval and accreditation important?
Although completing a continuing education course or certificate program from a Board approved or accredited institution does not guarantee jobs or licensure for individuals, it may facilitate such achievement. It reflects the quality by which an educational institution or a program conducts its business. It speaks to a sense of public trust, as well as to professional quality.
As a student: Board of Nursing approval or accreditation provides assurance that the program in which you are enrolled or are considering enrolling is engaged in continuous review and improvement of its quality, that it meets specific state board of nursing and nationally endorsed standards in the profession, and that it is accountable for achieving what it sets out to do.
As a faculty member: Board of Nursing approval or accreditation provides a formal process for ongoing evaluation and improvement of your program and faculty development outcomes, a process by which faculty, students, and administration can work together in advancing the educational institution's mission.
As a professional: Board of Nursing approval or accreditation provides a forum in which educators and practitioners of nursing can exchange ideas on future needs of the profession and ways in which to best address these needs in professional education and training.
As a member of the public: Board of Nursing approval or accreditation ensures public accountability of a program or an institution -- that it has the means and demonstrates the outcomes for its educational process that are consistent with its goals and objectives; in other words, that there is 'truth in advertising'.
